Bruce Lee Workout - The Philosophy Behind the Bruce Lee Workout
The Bruce Lee workout changed and evolved over the years, just as Bruce himself changed and evolved.
Bruce Lee used a combination of strength training strategies and various pieces of equipment. The mainstay of his training program consisted of isometrics, weight lifting, flexibly exercises and of course martial arts training.
The one thing that defines Bruce Lee is that he always sought to use things that would aid him in building a stronger more powerful body. He wasn't necessarily looking to build a muscle-bound physique, he was looking to increase his strength and power and apply that in his martial arts.
He felt, that using isometrics alone was not enough. A combination of resistance training and isometric exercise would provide more power and strength. He saw the strengths in each training strategy and also saw their weaknesses.
He felt that isometrics had the ability to provide raw power quickly, but they would not provide an increase muscle size, that's where resistance training came in. By using a combination of these two you increase your strength, and at the same time increase the size of the muscle.
In the Bruce Lee workout, when it came to isometric exercise, he had four suggestions:
At the end of each isometric workout, he performed, a movement called a Frog Kick. This movement was used to stretch out his lower back, work his abs and hip flexor's. It also was a great cool down movement
The Bruce Lee workout also used different training apparatuses and exercise devices for strength building, including cables, the Tensolator, and compression machines.
Bruce Lee believed that there just was not one way to develop strength, like in his martial arts. He believed only time and hard work would achieve that goal.
Regardless of whether you want to gain maximum muscle size or lose body fat-- or both. The correct exercise equipment and nutrition program are essential.
